NBC&BC - President's Message 2021

I welcome you to the 2021 season with optimism as lockdown restrictions are gradually easing. It is a great honour for me to continue as President.
I hope you are fit and well and looking forward to enjoying our club and it's facilities.
Matt Thompson is continuing as our cricket captain following last year’s success in a curtailed season. Our young 1st XI magnificently defeated Wallasey in the local final of the restart knockout.
Hopefully, we can build from last year's success and play good competitive cricket.
Good luck to Matt and to all our cricket captains.
Our bowlers suffered badly in 2020 due to the cancellation of all leagues and competitions.
It is great news that competitive bowling resumes in May.
Rodney Watkins will serve as bowling captain. Let’s hope for a great year.
Our ground and greens are in great condition. Thanks to Tim Watkins, Phil Leech and Mike Pilling for all their hard work.
Thanks also to Sue Sherratt and all the helpers in continuing to provide our junior cricket.
I particularly wish to express gratitude to George Roberts for his 10 outstanding years as Club Chairman. George has now stepped down.
George managed many problems behind the scenes during his long tenure, including the considerable difficulties arising due to the construction of the new pavilion.
George, together with our Hon. Treasurer, Trevor Barraclough, has worked tirelessly to secure the financial position of the club.
In the last 12 months, George was able to secure funding to keep the club operating during covid times.
Tim Watkins has taken over as temporary Chairman pending a permanent appointment. Thanks to Tim for taking on this role. It is greatly appreciated.
Our Ground Chairman, John Williams has also stepped down after many years. Thanks to John for his outstanding service.
Our Bar and Functions Manager, Diane Fletcher retired from that role in 2020. Thanks to Diane for your excellent service and best wishes during your semi-retirement.
We have since appointed Mandie Hickson as General Manager. Mandie brilliantly kept the club operating last autumn and winter when we were allowed to open.
We hope for a successful 2021 and some normality when functions are back.
Hopefully, no more requirements for a substantial meal.
As the club has reopened, we now need to pull together to overcome our difficulties.
Best wishes to all our players, members, employees and volunteers.
I will end on a sad note in memory of people we have very lost since we last met:
Peter Colebourne, Ian Mckie, Peter Senior, Val Rudd, Barrie Rowlands, Muriel Hyde, Jim Wood, Maureen Bridge, Bob Hughes and Kevin Bowe.
Looking forward to a much better year and a great season.
Bobby Bibby
